Current Affairs Series

The Current Affairs Series provides an avenue for Young AMP members to network, engage and share ideas on topical issues with Muslim and non-Muslim professionals in various industries. Members are also invited to talks on current issues which affect Singaporeans and the Malay-Muslim community.

A Green Affair

Topic:         Muslims and the Environment
Date:          Saturday, 24 October 2009
Time:          2 pm – 5 pm
Venue:        AMP Auditorium
Speakers:    Ustaz Firdaus Yahya, Ms Siobhan Irving, Ms Nur Amira Abdul Karim & Mr Wilson Ang

Summary:
Environmental awareness amongst Muslims is low, despite about 750 verses in the Holy Quran, relating humans with their environment. Islam is clear about the environment - humankind has a moral obligation to not only appreciate, but to sustain Allah's blessings. The following panel discussion centers around a Muslim perspective on issues of the environment and environmentalism. Discussion also includes a live video conference with Mr Wilson Ang, president of Eco-Singapore, from Sweden.

Economic Issues Talk (EIT)

As part of the Current Affairs Series, we organise Economic Issues Talk (EIT) on an ad-hoc basis to engage young/emerging professionals on issues that affect them and to encourage the exchange of ideas across disciplines. Young AMP invites distinguished professionals to present on topics of current interest. The talk provides an opportunity for members to gain career insights from practitioners in the various industries. The EIT also serves as part of a general environmental scan so that the community can understand the opportunities and challenges as they grapple with rapid changes in the global economy.

Past EITs:
