Several interconnected trends make the Malay/Muslim youth community in Singapore an important group deserving careful analysis: a relatively large youth sector and a growing sense of Islamic identity, both taking place within the context of an increasingly globalized and competitive Singapore society. These trends offer both challenges as well as potential in the development of the Malay/Muslim community in Singapore.
“Igniting Thought, Unleashing Youth: Analysis and Perspectives on Muslim Youth and Activism in Singapore” is an edited volume of articles written by youths on their roles and contributions to society. More importantly, the proposed articles situate this important theme within the context of the Malay community, Islam, and the wider Singapore society.
The book serves three aims:
To offer an analysis of the state of Malay/Muslim youth in Singapore and elsewhere in the world To articulate key issues and challenges in Malay/Muslim youth activism To highlight potential areas of contributions by Muslim youth in the development of Singapore
The book was launched on Saturday, 15 August 2009 at the The Pod, National Library.
